Went to watch Silk at Cathay Cineplex with Lucy... Everytime we decide to watch a movie, our pick will definitely be a Horror Movie... It's a great movie... At some points it really scared the shit out of me... lol! Had dinner and window shopped! Everytime I go out with Lucy, it's always going back to Heartland Mall first and then walk to Lucy's house and I am supposed to take bus but as usual I'll be too lazy and just flagged for a cab... Zzzzz...
Work! Aiya!
After row call, Nafia told me I'll be following Alpha 232... And I was like... "Alah... dun wan go firepost!" and he also told me we'll be following PM Christina... Shit... I'm scared of this pm since I saw her in day 1... She just look intimidating but everyone told me she's ok... Tried to think positive... Went for calls with her and guess wat! I did the ecg wrongly and it's not my first time doing ecg for god's sake!
The screen was showing a bad heart rythmn and my PM asked him if he's feeling any pain at his heart but he said no, he only feels breathless... Immediately I was thinking "eh prolly I put wrongly, he neva complain of heart pain, surely it should show a good rythmn..." PM Christina checked the ecg and the "F" was at the wrong place! I thought I've put it nearer to the hip area but it turned out it was near the stomach... dammit! I changed the position of "F" and immediately the screen showed a goood heart rythmn... PM Christina looked at me and said "You see how much of a difference it could make? You scare me..." She said that with her intimidating look and I went "errr... ya..."
That was not all! I actually left the feet area while patient is on the stretcher... But the moment I did that I was like "Eh f*** what am I doing..?" And I quickly grab the stretcher at the feet part... Den PM Christina went "You neva leave tt part when patient is on the stretcher" I know I know I definitely know that! *in my heart*
Talked to my senior medic, Nafia... "eh I corked up alot lei today... esp the ecg...it's not my first time lor doing ecg... I cannot work with her she's just too intimidating... how??" Nafia told me that she's like that... she gave you the intimidating look but you just do your job and it'll be fine... Nafia also said back then, his first day as an ambulance medic, he followed Christina and he corked up the whole day! lol... He said I need to get used to how the PMs work, esp Christina cos she's in Rota 1 same as me!! Then I told Nafia... I rather follow PM Ricky lei... I prefer working with male PM... Then Nafia said it doesnt matter male or female as long as you can get used to their working style there shouldn't be a problem...
There's this patient who's really heavy! I had trouble pushing him on the stretcher... I had even more trouble loading him into the alpha, lucky got help from Nafia and driver... On the alpha my mind was thinking.. Shit I definitely cant unload him later... Too heavy... Wanted to tell Nafia but didnt have the chance... reached hotel 5 and I went to unload the patient... I gathered all the strength I had and unload him... thank god I managed to!
Stayed at Pasir Ris firepost from 12-6.20pm as there were no calls! Watched tv the whole day till I accidentally fell asleep on the chair... I watched Picket Fences, they said it was an old show but I've neva watched it b4 la... After that watched Chicago Hope... I like this show too cos it's all abt medical stuff so can learn something from tt show... Around 6.10pm Nafia went to buy food for our break fast... 6.20pm we got a call! Rushed to the Alpha and then PM Christina turned arnd and asked me "can you handle alone?" I went "ya..aa.." when my alpha u-turned I saw Nafia running with the plastic bag containing our food/drinks and he managed to get on the alpha!
Patient had low hypo count, had to do IV, dextrose 10%, thank god Nafia was around If not I sure die have to handle alone... Nafia went to prime the dextrose 10% outside den I had to cut a slit on the opsite but I forgot where! PM Chua already taught me but I couldn't think... In my heart "Nafia where r u?? Come quick....!" Nafia came and he showed me where to cut... What a nerve wrecking day for me!
At night went back to Tamp Fire Station! Time to go back home! Thedy was already there cos he's working night shift... He asked me how many calls I had, then I told him...
Me: Thank God only 3! I corked up today! I put the ecg wrongly lor... at the stomach... I cant work with Christina la..
Thedy: What? I also put at the stomach lei that time I worked with her... didnt know the patient had a huge tummy... I tot I've placed it near the hip...
Me: Yea lor! Same same... I tot I've put it at his hip... hahaha..
Monday I'm working night shift... who will my PM be?? We are actually on a transition period so our schedule sometimes dun follow the Rota... Once we, new medics can run alone then we will have to stick to our own Rotas wch means we have a fixed PM... Pls let me follow Ricky and not Christina... *prays*
2nd day of work, only had 5 calls but I attended 4 calls only cos the first call I was at the store to collect my uniform with my paramedic then there was a call so my paramedic had to run all the way down, I was just abt to ask her if I need to come along or not but I thought again and decided to stay behind and wait for my uniform since Nafia is downstairs so he can go for the call... heh... took me an hour to get my uniform... The storeman abit disorganised la...
Oh btw on my 2nd day I was at the firepost at Pasir Ris not at Tamp Station... Had to follow Alpha 232 instead of 231... Though firepost got tv but I dunno why I prefer station... While watching tv at around 8pm the phone rang and my paramedic answered... She told me "Got call! Call the others(Nafia and the driver)..!" We all rushed to our Alpha den my Paramedic said "patient suspected to have passed awy... if true den it's a very good experience for him(pointing at me)" Before that my Senior medic Nafia told me the next call he's not gonna do anything, I will have to run on my own and follow instructions from paramedic... And the next call had to be a case of DOA(Death on Arrival)...
Arrived at location... Paramedic told me to do ecg...Took down the lifepak 12 and did ecg... While doing my hand was shaking not cos it's my first time doing ecg but I dunno if this sounds stupid but I was really scared that the patient would come back to life and strangle me... After I sticked the electrodes on the body we all looked at the lifepak 12 screen and it showed asystole, a straight horizontal line... The one u all watch on tv la... just tt my lifepak12 dun have the teeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet sound... Den my pm pronounced dead... Called for papa charlie(police) to take over the case... At the location there was only deceased son...
My pm told me to inspect the body and I went "so scary eh?" (Cannot tell you all y it's scary) She was nice enough to accompany me den told me to look at the legs, there are red patches, means deceased has been dead for quite sometime as the blood had already rushed to the lower extremities... Den told me to feel for carotid pulse... actually she asked me where to check for pulse and I confidently told her "Carotid!" Pulse was absent, skin was cold... Next she told me to feel the back of the neck and lift it...(in my heart--> why she wants me to do this???) I tried lifting but very stiff... Then she said, another sign deceased has been dead for quite sometime... Deceased daughter came back cry n cry n cry, my pm calmed her down... Neighbours came in and this uncle talked to me and I explained some things to him... Papa charlie came, we handed over... deceased elder son came home cry cry cry... My pm signalled to us tt its time to ciaoz... We left the scene... Washed hands at the Alpha den pm told me go back wash face and sleep dun think abt it... Tt night I slept with the lights on... Cos when I switched off the lights... Tt image keep flashing... But now it's much better rdy la... Oh I twisted my wrist... was damn painful... Hope by tmr I will be ok la... Tmr's another working day...
The last time I'll be wearing smart4!
If I am to write about all the cases I attended today, it's gonna take you the whole day to read... Had a total of 9 calls! There was a time when we had 3 cases in a row, we didn't have the chance to return to base(station)... My first case, an old mly lady who couldn't walk and feeling really weak after she fell head first yesterday night... Sent to Hotel 5(Changi Hospi), when I jumped out of the ambulance I was delighted to see Nasri in the A&E! His ambulance was there too! Alpha 211, mine's Alpha 231! I tried to contain my delightment cos wouldn't want the public to complain against me.. 'why is this medic smiling, this is serious stuff'... I saw Nasri twice at Hotel 5 for two separate cases... Found out he's in Rota 1 too in Paya Lebar FS... Anyway his senior medic is also a private whereas mine is a corporal so I abit more stress... hehe
I learnt aloooot today! I actually did hypocount for patient, do ecg, take bp... At least I was of some help! I didnt stood there doing nth... after a few cases I am more and more clear of what my role as a medic is! Thanx to the guidance of my Senior Medic and my cute Paramedic... Oh and I saw the infamous WO(Warrant Officer) Julie! She's indeed cute! Saw her awhile only den the alarm went "tong tong tong" got call again... when we returned to base she was gone... sigh...Oh I also did reporting on the matra set... at first so nervous to talk on the matra set but after awhile no prob la... I only like to report 'alpha 231, 231 back at base over' ahahahha... means return to station to rest again... heh...
Anyway I won't be blogging abt work after today la unless I change to wordpress and activate the private entry where only close frenz can read the entries with a password... You see nowadays many medics got charged cos of the things they wrote in their blog and when the public reads and they r not happy they will complain.. so i dun wanna take the risk of goin to DB(NS Jail!) K wanna rest rdy.. tmr's another working day!
Everyone met at CDA for the last time, we separated into our own divisions and wait for the lorry to pick us up... 2nd Div there're only Paya Lebar FS, Changi FS and HQ Tampines FS... When we reach the Tamp FS I was elated to see the place... It is fucking NEW!! Compared to Paya Lebar and Changi, it's a much better place to be in! Met this lady whos in charge of manpower la... Den she assigned us our ROTA... And your friend here like dunno why so kilat, stand rite infront den was assigned the ROTA 1! In ROTA 1 there're two paramedics, 1 girl, 1 guy... both looked very pleasant, or rather good looking, btw I was looking at their photos, they weren't there...
The lady then brought us down to meet the paramedic... Thedy asked the lady how we shud address her and while he was asking, that lady flipped her uniform and I could see her rank.. She's a Lieutanant! Den she answered Thedy but we already knew... Thedy and me looked at each other and give that "wooouuuuw" look... But she was a very very nice lady! Sad thing she's not a paramedic.. She's from HAZMAT(Hazardous Material)... No she's not hazardous... She's a hazardous material specialist... So if there's any chemical attack... She'll respond...
Met the paramedic, a decent looking lady too... just tt she doesnt smile... but she sounds nice... She told me that I can go home, Thedy also cos today our off day! Took our uniform measurement then can go home liao... Thedy asked her if we need to bring anything on our working day then she said just bring yr personal belongings... We were told that we're gettin the uniform in a 'few weeks' time! wat!!! few weeks! darn it.. means I have to wear my smart4 for the next 'few weeks'... Sian la.. I want my smart 3!!
Rahman and Lum are in ROTA 2! so good... they have each other to talk to as they r in the same team! I should have stand second instead of first! Anyway I went back with Thedy, there weren't any bus to our house so we walked to interchange... saw my cousin, talked awhile den went off with Thedy... I already warned Thedy(ROTA 4) you better dun take MC I tell you! If I have to cover you and cannot go home you watch out! Thedy and I will always be working on the same day just that if I take morn shift, he'll take nite shift, vice versa... so our off days are the same! =o)
Starting work on Wed, morn shift... Found out tt Lucas had two calls just now.. Wonder how he coped... And when he was at Changi hospital he met Fahmi! Fahmi was there too! Apparently both paya lebar and Tamp station had calls and sent their patients to Changi Hospi! So cool! You might meet yr frenz from other stations..! I hope everything will be a breeze for me la.. hopefully not so many calls.. Still a greenhorn you see..
I was waiting for this day and when it finally arrived, I was filled with mixed feelings... My heart was heavy, I guess the 6 weeks I've spent with those wonderful people in 100th MOC had left me with these feelings... It was totally a different feeling when I POP from BRTC, I couldn't wait to leave those bunch of uncivilized people... But here in MOC, I love them to bits... They are the most wonderful people I've met... I wished I don't have to leave them... But all of us are going our separate ways... Faiz, Syed and Ronald will be staying as instructors (I wished I had accepted the offer so tt I can still be with them)... Fahmi and Khairi are posted to Paya Lebar Fire Station(FS), Asyraf posted to Central FS, Jun Nian(Alexandra FS), Paul(Ang Mo Kio FS) and I am posted to 2nd Div' HQ Tampines FS with 4 other guys... I am happy cos it's near my house but somehow I just feel uneasy...
For the past 6 weeks, I'll meet Asyraf and Jun Nian at Bedok MRT station and we'll go to CDA together and when we reach class I'll start talking to the people around me, joking with them, pass some sarcastic remarks(for the fun of it) and especially turning arnd to just irritate Faiz... I wont be able to do that anymore! Everytime when I'm feeling this way I will remember what my Mem' always said, "In life you must know when to LET GO..." I guess I'm still not letting go...
Final X!
On our Final X(Exercise) the overall in charge was Capt. Syed(Syed Amrun), I was so called his asst. Sgt Saed (Senior Medic), I guess they purposely put us together cos of our name... Ours was a night exercise, it was a total chaos, lighting was not up, our rescuers were told to be deployed immediately, we were lacking in manpower to set up the FAP(First Aid Point) Although I was in charge of Triage with Syed but I helped out in setting up the lighting and then FAP... I was running arnd helping those in need... Then I heard the siren, damn the casualties are here! Everybody was still busy setting up the FAP... I ran to my Triage point alone... And I saw 6 casualties in the lorry! These casualties need to be conveyed immediately cos they are all lying in the lorry... I asked Syed to call the medics to come and help, he called for them thru matra set..
I went up to the lorry and assessed the casualties and conveyed them one by one... Out of sudden I became paramedic when my post is Senior Medic at Triage point... Syed saw me on the lorry and he told me to come down and help him with triage... Though our performance wasn't that good BUT I felt that we really worked as a team despite lighting problem and shortage of manpower, we went home arnd 11.15pm that night!
Next morning had to report to class again! That will be the last time we will be in that class! We all talked about the Final X, I overheard Syed telling the others how I was helping him alot that night and he said I did alot of stuff! He didnt know I heard him talking abt me... I was smiling in my heart that someone actually noticed what I did... He told me that if he ever needs a PA he will get me to work for him... And when we bersurai*(our last bersurai) yesterday, Syed was the first person to come and shake my hand wishing me all the best, Faiz was not there as he was helping my Mem' with some work(He already start performing as an instructor)... Syed had to stay back too... While walking out of CDA for the last time as a 'Trainee' with the others... I was in a daze... just cant believe everything has come to an end... I should be happy but I am not... However I will try to get myself back and hope that I will perfom as a Station Medic, saving lives...
*Dismissed in Malay
